The academic year 2009/2010 has started and we’d like to share a couple of short updates with all of you! In this edition of the TDM update:
- we have started this year with no less than 17 nationalities!
- scholarship options for 2010/2011 applications
- and some thesis introductions from current students
Start of the year – with students from 17 different nationalities!
The Master in Tourism Destination Management has seen a very varied influx of nationalities this year. Within a group of 21 students we have no less than 17 different nationalities!
Students have joined us from Ghana, Germany, Vietnam, Honduras, China, USA, Ecuador, Kazaghstan, Curacao, Indonesia, Kenya, The Netherlands, Brasil, India, Belgium & Italy.
Research amongst these students made clear that most of them were searching for a mastercourse combining relevant theoretical approaches on destination development with practical experience in management of tourism destinations. This confirms our feeling that Destination Management is a growing field of expertise, developing fast globally.
International student scholarship options for 2010/2011
There are again two scholarship possibilities for the international students choosing to study Tourism Destination Management. This year four excellent TDM students have received full study grants from 2 separate scholarship programmes.
NFP
The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand oriented fellowship programmes designed to foster institutional development. The NFP target group consists of mid-career professionals who are already in employment.
An NFP fellowship, which is granted for the duration of the programme, is intended to provide a contribution towards the costs of living, to cover the costs of tuition fees, and the cost of visas, travel, insurance, thesis research, etc. as specified in the NFP booklet ‘Rules and regulations for fellowship holders 2009’.

Dear All,
I am an Indian Post Graduate Girl Student with specialization in Tourism & Travel Management in IITTM (Run By Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India which will be completed by end June’2010). Can I go for further study in my field with my very limited financial abilities? Do you have any option for the same or Course fee payable after getting a job there?
Additionally can you please help me with information about the possibility of prospective carrier in my field in any of the EU country? Or any subsidized Study programme in my field?
Thank you,
Shuvasree Banerjee
Dear Shuvasree,
Thanks for your interest in our master programme! Regarding the payment of the tuition fees, this can be done in installments during the study year itself. There is however, no possibility for postponed payment. I suggest that you take a closer look at the requirements for the scholarship programmes mentioned in this post and try to apply for those after admission to TDM.
For further in-depth questions you can always send your queries to master-tdm@nhtv.nl
Best regards,

Hi Theodore,
Thank you for your interest in our master programme! Although a BA in Agriculture is quite different from Tourism Destination Management, possible relevant work experience could play a role in the assessment for admission. I suggest you take a look at http://www.nhtv.nl/tdm where you can find all information you need about the application procedure. An application form is available for download there as well.
If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to send us an email at master-tdm(at)nhtv(dot)nl

Dear Maria,
Thanks for answering that for me 🙂 Indeed, these details can also be found on the application form.
Best regards,
Rob
Hi Maria,
After receiving the application, we will immediately start checking if all the required documentation is delivered in the right format. If this is done, we will assess the contents and decide if we plan a telephone interview. If the telephone interview does not leave any questions unanswered, we will have a decision within a couple of days after that. The total process (not taking into account seasonal holidays) can take from 2-8 weeks. In case there is a need for quick action, due to for example scholarship application deadlines, this process can be sped up.
I hope this answers your questions.
Best regards,
Rob
